This Sunday marked the end of the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. The Thumper team would like to congratulate all Paralympic athletes for their hard work and determination, especially in the face of adversity. We would like to give a special shout out to Abdellatif Baka, the gold medal winner of the 1,500 meter race who achieved a new world record at 3:48.29.
For several years, there has been a lot of controversy when comparing the Olympics with the Paralympics, but in the words of Paralympic runner David Howe, “[the two] should be seen as one window to celebrate difference, and to marvel at the performances of the athletes that are out there. Not better or worse, but different.” To read more about Baka’s amazing achievement and the stance of the Paralympics, click here.
