Prior to starting a workout, we were always told to stretch our muscles in a static position, that is, by holding one pose for close to a minute before changing positions. Although this system works well at the end of one’s workout, it’s actually a poor way for the body to prepare itself for exercise. Dynamic stretching is the preferred course of action prior to starting your routine because it warms the muscles, increases a person’s range of motion and reduces the likelihood of injury.
